Puteri Gunung Ledang
I'm divided between saying it's a good show or just another seemingly hot stuff paid through electronic media ......
the opening was splendid.....i was stunned by Ac Mizal's opening appearance..and his voice...and the contemporary ethnic Music....the dancers..the settings...the props...it was all so lively and lovely...
but throughout the play....i got very dissapointed by mainly.... the songs....it was all so western..so broadway-like....i could even stop and think wether am i in the wrong set of play?...was this suppose to be "sound of music" musical?..or pocahontas or something?...
i didn't step foot into istana budaya last night with an expectation...i didn't expect it to be traditional nor modern.....i was just ready to be sunked into the moment where there is just the tale and the ambience and the music that plays the role...not the actors...not the audience
Perhaps they wanted to diverge slightly away from the classic genre ...and the ideal plan is to modernize the songs so people wouldn't yawn halfway through...but come to think of it....the reason why people came(if i may speak so in general) is to actually see a CLASSIC musical theatre...if they're looking for something western....why even bother to come?
stephen rahman became an issue before the play started...many have questioned his ability to play the role of Laksamana Hang Tuah...well...he tried....but trying and genuine is certainly a different concept...but he gets the credit for his singing....i know now why he was selected...but boils back down to the song
issue...stephen certainly have the voice for western broadway music...so ...this was not much of a difficult task for him...it got me thinking..did they purposely arrange the music so that it would fit him in the limelight?...
well...aside from those...AC Mizal deserved the big round of applause during the cast line up ..for his brilliant performance...he moved from singing to gerak khas to screen acting....and his final stop in theatre has certainly proven the best
achievement throughout his career chronology....well...tiara...remains tiara...
i think she have invested and devoted herself for something she really has the passion for...i have to say..it pays off....to the very least of her own satisfaction...i would want to become her...rich enough to buy a boat to carry her dreams...:)
it was worth the rm30 (student discounted price..with the seat behind the VIP grand circle..hehe)..but if i were to pay more....i'd request for different song line up...hehehe...(suke hati je..buat teater sendiri lar horr?)

alar..u should have booked tickets on the 7th or 8th..diorang tak strict punya...they didn't check pun student id...i beria la pergi buat id...my friends who came tu pun...sume kerja...just me and my best friend je student...takde hal la...eh don't spoil it la..keji la u...it was my personal perception...tak tau la kalau org lain suka...but it was good la..50-50 i have to say...
